Want to take your conference experience to the next level? We can help. Check out these tips for making the most of your time in Chicago.
1. Do your homework
Don’t wait until you’ve arrived to start figuring out your conference agenda. Decide on which sessions you’ll attend in advance and make an effort to connect with relevant speakers and exhibitors on social media beforehand.
PRO TIP: Might we suggest checking out the session from Ron Burrage of The Hershey Company? We heard there’ll be some special gifts!
2. Pack accordingly
Little things like showing up with a wrinkled shirt or forgetting to bring your business cards can easily sour your conference experience. Missing a keynote because you need to run out to get band-aids or contact solution is not a position you want to be in.
PRO TIP: Want to take your packing game to the next level? Here are some great tips.
3. Set goals
Before you hand over your registration fee, figure out what you’re hoping to get out of attending – be as concrete as possible. Whether it’s connecting with a certain speaker, having meetings with at least 10 new prospects or expanding your LinkedIn connections, knowing what you want to accomplish will help you prioritize your time.
PRO TIP: Identifying specific goals is also crucial to convincing your boss to bankroll your attendance at HOW. Need more resources on highlighting the professional development potential of the event? HOW’s organizers have you covered.
4. Schedule some free time
Overscheduling is a great way to exhaust yourself – as anyone who has ever tried to see and do it all on a family vacation can attest. Block out time each day where you can relax with a cup of coffee, network with some newfound friends or just put your feet up in your hotel room for a few minutes to recharge.
PRO TIP: Looking to get out of your hotel? Chicago is an amazing city to explore. Check out the Art Institute, snap a selfie at the Bean, nosh on one of Chicago’s famous hot dogs, or, if you’re a baseball fan, catch the reigning World Series champs in action while you’re in town.
5. Reflect on your goals
Take time to decompress after HOW and think about what you did successfully and what you might want to work on – better prep, more time for networking, remembering that contact solution, etc.– for next year.
PRO TIP: Think it’s too early to be contemplating HOW Design Live 2018? We respectfully disagree; here’s why.
